How this deck was made
There is a structure underneath, and it is the Enneagram. It maps nine ways a person can be organised: nine core motivations, nine gifts, and nine places where the gift becomes the wound. Three goddesses were chosen for each of the nine. Three times nine gives the twenty-seven.
Each trio carries one type's medicine in three registers. The Depth Keeper holds Persephone, Inanna and Rhiannon, three goddesses who each know the descent and each return from it differently. The Sovereign Power holds Sekhmet, Kali and Morrigan, three ways that fierceness serves love.
You have no need to know your type. You have no need to know the Enneagram at all. The card that arrives is for the woman who drew her, on the day she drew her. Hecate speaks to everyone who finds her at the crossroads. The architecture sits underneath, holding the deck in proportion, and it stays underneath while you work.
If the Enneagram interests you, it opens a much larger door. That door belongs in the workshop rather than in the daily pull.
When you meet an image, your mind goes looking. It runs back through your own memories, your own associations, your own private meanings, until it finds the place where that image already lives in you. There is a name for this in hypnotherapy: a transderivational search. The reflection rises from your own depths rather than arriving as a message from outside.
This is why the same card speaks differently to every woman who draws her. And why she speaks differently to you in November than she did in March. The goddess holds the doorway open. What you find on the other side is yours.
The more your subconscious works with a tool, the more attuned to it you become.
Early on, the cards may arrive as strangers. You draw one, you read her, something moves a little. Keep going. As the weeks gather, the deck becomes a language you and your own depths have agreed on. A goddess starts arriving as though she were expected. The symbols get shorter and say more.
The tool learns you while you learn the tool. The conversation between you gets quicker, and more honest, and harder to talk yourself out of. The attunement lives in the relationship rather than in the cardboard.
The daily pull is one relationship with these goddesses. There is another one, and it asks for your hands.
In the Basic Goddess clay workshop, we make them. You build the goddess who is asking for your attention, working slowly, letting the form arrive as it arrives. We get specific about her energy: where she sits in your body, what she came to say, what she is holding for you, what she would ask you to lay down. This is where the Enneagram architecture opens up, and where a woman meets her own type honestly, in company, with something taking shape between her palms.

Type the birthplace and the app works out the coordinates and the time zone at that date — daylight saving and all. Place search needs the internet; everything else stays on your device. Your birth certificate time is gold.
What do the planets and points mean?
A planet is less a force acting on you from outside than a part of you with its own appetite and its own speed. The fast ones, Sun through Mars, move in days or months, so they describe you quite particularly. Jupiter and Saturn take years and describe how you meet the wider world. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto take decades and are shared with nearly everyone born around the same time as you, so with those three the house they occupy tells you far more than the sign does.
Who you are at the centre. Not personality so much as what you are here to become, and what you feel most yourself doing. This is the sign people mean when they ask yours.
Your inner weather and your need. How you feel things, what settles you, what you reach for when tired or frightened. More private than the Sun, and often more accurate.
How you think, speak, read and learn — the tempo of your mind and the way you hand information to someone else. It never strays far from your Sun, so it sits in the same sign or one either side.
What you love and how you show it. Your taste, your way of drawing people close, and what you find beautiful or worth having.
How you act, and how you fight. Drive, appetite, anger and what you do with it. Where the Sun is who you are, Mars is how you get moving.
Where you expand. Generosity, luck, faith, appetite for more. Jupiter enlarges whatever it touches, which is a gift and occasionally too much of one.
Where you work hardest and ripen slowest. Limits, discipline, the thing you feel not yet good enough at and become genuinely skilled at through time. The least fun placement to read and often the most useful.
Where you refuse the standard version. Invention, sudden change, the part of you that will not be organised. It holds a sign for about seven years, so its house is the more personal detail.
Where the edges dissolve. Imagination, longing, compassion, and also where you are most easily fooled or would rather not look clearly. Around fourteen years to a sign.
Where life takes things apart and rebuilds them. Power, compulsion, and the areas that get remade rather than adjusted. Twelve to twenty years to a sign, so read the house.
The next five are not planets. They are the placements most people have never had explained, and they are often the ones that land hardest.
Named for the centaur healer who could mend anyone but himself. Chiron marks a sore place that does not resolve the way other things resolve, and which becomes, across a life, the exact spot you are able to help other people from. Its return, near the age of fifty, is one of the more meaningful passages a chart holds.
Not a body at all, but a point where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s. The North Node, which this is, marks the direction you are growing toward, usually the less comfortable one. The point exactly opposite is the South Node: ground you already know how to stand on. True means the Moon’s wobble was calculated rather than averaged out.
This is Black Moon Lilith, the point in the Moon’s orbit sitting furthest from Earth, rather than any asteroid carrying the same name. It marks what in you declines to be tamed, managed or made palatable. Often the part that got you into trouble young, and later turns out to be the source of your authority.
The exact degree rising in the east at the moment you arrived, and the doorway of the whole chart. It sets where the first house begins, and every other house follows from it, which is why an accurate birth time matters so much. As a placement in its own right, it is the manner you arrive in: the bearing people meet before they meet you.
The highest point the sky reached at your birth, and the peak of the chart. It opens the tenth house and describes your public direction: your calling, your reputation, what you become known for. If the Ascendant is how you enter a room, the Midheaven is what you are seen to be doing with your life.
Elements and modes: how the signs are built
The twelve signs are not twelve unrelated characters to be memorised. Each one is a single element crossed with a single mode, and once you have both, any sign becomes readable without a glossary.
Warmth, initiative, faith, appetite for action. Fire tends to move before it has all the information.
Substance, patience, usefulness, results. Earth wants to know whether the thing will actually work.
Thought, language, connection, perspective. Air needs to talk it through in order to understand it.
Feeling, memory, intuition, attachment. Water knows things before it can explain them.
And how each one moves:
Starts things. Each of these four opens a season.
Holds and deepens. Each sits at the middle of a season, and each is hard to shift once decided.
Adapts, then hands over. Each closes a season and prepares the turn into the next.
So Scorpio is fixed water: feeling held at depth. Gemini is mutable air: thought that keeps moving on. Capricorn is cardinal earth, which starts things and expects them to last. Your own chart will lean heavily toward some elements and modes and skip others almost entirely, and the summary at the top of your chart names where you run rich and where you run thin.
What do the twelve houses mean?
The houses are not out in space. They are made by the horizon. At the moment you arrived, the sky was cut into twelve slices by the exact spot you were standing on, and the first slice opens at the eastern horizon. Where a sign describes how a planet behaves, a house describes where in your life it does its work, which often makes the house the most practical part of a placement to read. Houses are also the part that needs an accurate birth time: twenty minutes can shift a planet into the next one. Without a birth time this app counts solar houses from your Sun instead, and labels them so you always know which you are looking at.
Your body, your face, your manner, the impression that lands before you have said a word. Planets here are visible ones: people meet them first, sometimes before you have met them yourself. The sign on this house is your Ascendant, or rising sign.
Money, belongings, earning capacity, and underneath all of that, what you genuinely value and what makes you feel resourced. Planets here shape your relationship with having, and with your own worth.
Conversations, writing, reading, errands, short trips, neighbours, siblings, and the speed your mind runs at on an ordinary day. Planets here show how you take information in and how you pass it on.
Where you live, your family line, the private self that almost nobody sees, and what the word home actually means to you. Planets here often carry something inherited. This is the floor of the chart, sitting opposite the Midheaven.
Creativity, play, romance, children, performance, pleasure taken for its own sake. Planets here show where you come alive without needing a reason for it.
Routine, craft, service, health, and the small repeated acts that keep a life running, including how you tend your own body. Planets here reward attention to detail and dislike being rushed.
Marriage, partnership, close collaboration, and open opposition too. Anyone who sits directly across from you, one to one. Planets here describe who you draw toward you and what you look for in a counterpart. This house begins at the Descendant, opposite your Ascendant.
Intimacy, other people's money, debts, inheritance, sex, death, and everything that asks you to hand over some control. Planets here tend to work in cycles of loss and regeneration rather than in straight lines.
Study, philosophy, faith, teaching, publishing, distant places and long journeys. Anything that widens the frame. Planets here go looking for meaning and grow restless inside a small horizon.
Career, reputation, public standing, what you become known for, and the authority you either answer to or grow into. This is the peak of the chart, beginning at the Midheaven. Planets here are on display whether or not you asked them to be.
Friends, groups, allies, causes, and the future you are tending toward. Planets here work through belonging, and through what you hope for on behalf of more than yourself.
Solitude, dreams, retreat, the unconscious, whatever you carry that has no words yet, and whatever you do out of sight. Planets here are subtle from the inside and often perfectly obvious to everyone else.
The first, fourth, seventh and tenth are the angular houses, hinged on the four turning points of the chart. A planet sitting in one of those acts with more force than the same planet tucked elsewhere. And an empty house is not an empty life: it simply means that area runs on the sign holding it, without a planet standing there insisting.
What are the Sabian symbols?
In 1925, in San Diego's Balboa Park, the astrologer Marc Edmund Jones sat with the clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler, who received a spontaneous image for each of the zodiac's 360 degrees — one picture for every degree of the sky. These are the Sabian symbols. They are not predictions or personality labels: each is a small scene, like a fragment of a dream, attached to the exact degree where a planet sits. Read yours the way you would a dream image — let it be strange, notice what it stirs, and trust your first response over any dictionary meaning. The degree is always rounded up: a planet at 6°11′ carries the 7th degree’s image.
